Sticks and Stones
Defined by my beliefs –
Not by those who
Don’t believe in me.
Defined by what I do –
Not what people
May do to me.
Defined by how I think –
Not what others think about me.
Defined by what I say –
Not what people
Say about me.
Defined by my laugh –
Not by those who
Only laugh at me.
The sticks they throw
May find their marks,
But the pain will go away.
When all’s said
And done
In a world full
Of harsh critics,
My scars from stones
And bruises on bones
Will not shame me
But, instead,
Make me.
