Sunlight streams across rusted chrome;
The illusion of freedom taunts a hopeless cause.
Aching for the sky.
Longing for the wind.
Jealousy overcomes the golden bird
As a flock of geese travel together just adjacent to the gleaming window.
She loses herself briefly, but becomes blinded by the sheen of her rusted metal home
And dwells on the misery she drowns in everyday.
But she chirps every day,
Faking a joy she cannot feel.
And day by day,
Her shell loses its perfection.
Her agonizing pain begins to show.
Alone, alone.
Nothing comforts, nothing soothes.
The cage’s touch blisters her unreachable dreams.
Her wings can’t lift her broken spirits.
Yet the geese fly higher,
Always gaining another new follower, taunting her, mocking her.
Maybe one day she will be free.
Her visions fuel her almost forgotten ambitions,
Saving her from tumbling off of the edge of a dangerous oblivion.
At least, for one more day.

What inspired me to write this piece was the fact that I've felt trapped all my life, but that there is a way out. I hope people will understand that as long as you have a plan and hope, anything can happen.
