Careless Words

You walk around
words pouring from your lips
like rain from a cloud
you don't worry about what you say
you don't worry about
who you might be damaging
with your careless petty words

you see that girl
you just made fun of her best friend
but she's to scared to stand up to you
for fear you'll turn your critical gaze
on her
for fear that you will belittle her
and cut her down

you see that boy
he is scared to tell everyone that he's gay
because he's too scared that you'll all laugh
and make fun of him
under the disguise of teasing
'just a bit of fun'

you have no idea the effect you have
the scars you leave
the tears they have to hide
you have no idea how they're breaking inside

you see that girl
she wants to kill herself
and your biting words are the catalyst
but you won't even feel an ounce of guilt
when they announce her death
will you darlin'?

Next time you open your mouth
try to think about what you're doing
the scars your leaving
the lives you're damaging
try to remember what it feels like to be belittled
to be humiliated and hurt
but to afraid to stand up for yourself

I don't know who you think you are
running around
like your king of the whole damn world
because you're not king of anything

but go on ahead
and run around leaving your scars
because one day
you're finally going to find someone
someone who has the power to break you
like you've broken everyone else
and when you do
I hope they shatter you
and leave you lying on the ground
surrounded by regret and lost dreams and crushed hope
I hope they ruin you
and that you finally realize
what it felt like
for all those people that you broke

game over hun
