You tell her when she's sad,
You tell her when she's happy.
You tell her when she's disgusted,
You tell her when it's okay to give in.
She steps on and the numbers go up, up, up.
She knows no matter what,
Her thighs will always be too big,
Her gut out too far
You help her realize that she needs to change through your perfection.
How do people stand being around her?
You're her only friend.
The only one who tells her the truth.
Her hips are too wide,
Her arms are too thick.
She's fat.
She hates it.
She hates herself
You're so small and strong to be able to hold her up.
You open her eyes to her obvious flaws.
You tell her when to purge,
Even though she does it all the time already,
You applaud her in the background,
As her fingers reach down her throat,
One gag,
And then two gags,
And then the contents of her stomach explode into the toilet,
As tears run down her face.
She is victorious,
You give her the satisfactory of a couple pounds lost.
Afterwards she always feels better,
Until she steps on you again and the numbers go up, up, up.
You give her your criticism but she never changes,
She is a failure and she doesn't deserve to have someone like you help her get the numbers down.
But you give her the strength to try.
Thank you for always being there,
Her perfect little scale…

Hi, you should know you're not alone. I also suffered from an eating disorder, though I had anorexia. I can imagine the stess a scale causes, though I never had one in my house when I was sick. Throw it out! It won't do anything but harm. Anyways, enough group therapy ;) This poem was strong, forceful and beautiful, I'm glad you were able to write this. Thank you :)

Beautiful poem, I recently wrote something very similar and am waiting for it to be approved. Great job! :)
