Summer's Escape
Deep in the overflowing
Golden countryside
Full of twigs, sticks, and crunchy leaves
Humming with the cicadas’ tune
Lies an aged ladder
Where his summers
Were spent.
18 years old now,
He returns
To the familiar site
Painted by summer memories
To say goodbye
As the velvet purples
And passionate reds
Of the sunset
Spill across the May evening,
He leaves the ladder behind
For the last time.
