Butterfly Nerves

sending shocks of exhilarating electricity
flying through every tightened muscle.
It flutters within the bones of your ribcage,
slowly bubbling
like water heating over an orange hot stove.

Millions of feathery flapping wings
tickle you from the inside out.
Your face tries to hide the nerves
like a Monarch camouflaged
within a bed of bright orange flowers,
but whatever you do,
this sensation will not leave you.

It builds

And builds

Until suddenly
It s c a t t e r s
into the wind.
