What he knew was right
Over there across the seas
A father hides among the trees
Waiting for the signal
One shot rings out down the line
A father stands, frozen in time
As they aim for invisible men
Explosions all around them
But something goes wrong in this jungle
Now surrounded and in a struggle
They say they still hear that day
When one man stays behind, as the rest escape with there lives
One father stays behind
Little boy, don’t you cry
Daddy’s did what he knew was right
He fought for a flag that still stands tall
He fought for a land and freedom for all
Over there, down the isle
Shining black shoes march in style
A flag covers a casket
The bagpipes sounds
The ceremony ends
A man walks up to say
That he was there that day
When something went wrong in that jungle
They were surrounded and in a struggle
I still remember that day
When one man stayed behind, as we escaped with our lives,
One father stayed behind
Little boy, don’t you cry
Your Daddy did what he knew was right
He fought for a flag that still stands tall
He fought for a land and freedom for all
He chose to sacrifice
For those without a choice
So, little boy, don’t you cry
Daddies in a better place tonight
Little boy grew up to be a man
He filled his father’s shoes, and went over there
He went up in command, and followed the soldier’s ways
He was his father’s son, until that fateful day
There was a yell from a man whose time ran out
Little boy thought fast, and took him to the ground
They say they still hear that day
When one man stayed behind, as the rest escaped with their lives
One boy stayed behind
Oh mother, don’t you cry
Little boy did what he knew was right
He fought for a flag that still stands tall
He fought for a land and freedom for all
He chose to sacrifice
For those without a choice
Oh mother, don’t you cry
Your son did what he knew was right
Little boy’s gona see daddy again tonight
