A holy house full of secrets

Pews gleaming wall to wall
The air holds a heavy feeling of silence
As I glance up from the holy book
Heads all bowed, like they’re telling secrets
Ones I’ve never been able to hear
All I hear is silence
Even as I screamed for you to answer me
Where were you?
The heavy cross at the front mocks me
Why have my prayers gone unanswered?
I don’t understand, so tell me
Where have you been, God?
