“I can learn more from one defeat than I can from one thousand victories.”
-Sun Tzu from The Art of War

He rose up in a warring land
Through many defeats he learned

Able to lead his rag-tag group
Of soldiers to unify almost all of
China

Learn more from
Failure and defeat than
From victory and success

No surprise here
What is learned from a victory?
Nothing

Through arduous trials
Errors
Failures
One learns lessons that would otherwise remain hidden

When facing failure
In order to succeed
Change something that is wrong

The path that leads to success is paved with many failures

My senior year of High School has been a path that was filled with bumps, gaps, and holes along the way. This semester, I decided to take a Creative Writing class and I wrote this poem during it. Despite a previous semester filled with "C"s and an elusive "B," I learned that the hard times of life are more valuable than the easy ones. After all, "All sunshine and no rain makes a desert."
