The End

The end of a friend can cause your life to bend
and you don't know where you're at.
I knew when I saw him in his open casket, his turtleneck
sweater hiding how he died.
And when I saw it close and lower
to his final resting place
that this pain would never mend.
He was a godsend, my best friend.
Now I understand what
Janis Joplin meant,
for I would trade all my tomorrows
for one single yesterday.
One who has never felt this loss
could never comprehend.
The End of a friend
can cause your life to bend
with a pain that will never end.
