I sit on the left side
For the first time ever
I’ve never felt
A feeling quite like this
Not knowing what to do
She showed me the switches
The blinker, the lights, the windshield wipers.

I’m driving a car
Just me and my mother
My first time driving
I was so nervous
What if I crash?
What will I do?
Help me mom, this is new to me.

I pulled out of the driveway
And into the street
My right foot was twitching
The car was screeching
I drove to a parking lot
With no other cars
My foot on the break, waiting for instructions.

Parking was the hardest
I could never park straight
I practiced and practiced
And practice makes perfect
“Drive slow and calm” my mom would say
I’ve learned it now
I’m a pro at driving.
