I wish...
I wish, I wish, I wish

My fingers rake the empty air,
Her tail rasping against my fingertips,
My gaze entangled in her snare
As up and up, away she skips.

I wish, I wish, I wish

Curled ribbon, the balloon string,
My heart enthralled by just a glance
For it I stretch, and reach and spring
That it might be my own, perchance.

I wish, I wish, I wish

Hopeless at times, yet still I persist
For the kite string or the lonely bird's trill,
The one I catch, the one not missed,
A dream come true, by sheer force of my will.

I wish, I wish, I wish

By virtue of trying that and trying this,
Of seeking hands, and sights set above
And lots and lots of emptiness
Of fists of air and teasing skies, by virtue of

I wish, I wish, I wish
