The Broken Line

I was diving in the deep;
my life placed,
so fragile,
in the trust of a rubber tube
filled with air,
so precious,
that it carried down to me.
Watch the line,
I told you.
Tell me when time’s up.
You smiled,
you nodded,
and you wished me
best of luck…
then waited
‘til I was lost in the dark,
and cut the line off.
