If Only I Could Go Back
Young in my childhood walking,
I wished I could.
My mother teaching me talking.
Now wishing I was stopping.
My sister helped me with walking,
a bit later in my childhood.
Then ABC's, boy, was I getting good
reading "Cat in the Hat"
back when it didn't matter,
if you were skinny or fat,
back when my best friend was my cat.
Things have changed these days.
Now we're obligated to get jobs,
and to be paid.
Teenage years
bring out emotions and tears,
needing to focus on graduating,
our minds set on friendships
and dating.
If only I could go back
to tree houses
and afternoon naps.
