Swimming
It’s as if you are in the twilight zone,
frozen in time and space.
Tempted to breathe
and consume the mysterious substance
that surrounds you
in all directions.
It is silent.
Your body goes limp,
making a moment that can’t last,
feel like an eternity.
Nothing matters.
You are consumed in hope
and seemingly endless peace.
If only the fire in your lungs
didn’t throw you through the barrier
between the silence
and the chaos
between the peace
and the rush
between what you didn’t want to remember
and what you can no longer forget.
between the calmness of the water
and our earthly dimension.
