In Between
When alone you are in between
Between life and death
You are clinging to Life
Even as you are reach longingly for Death
For Death is the final escape
The way out from the pain of being alone
But you will never reach it for you
Cling to Life in the hopes of overcoming
That great gnawing, slashing, agonizing pain
Just like George and Lenny from Of Mice and Men
You hope to reach home again
Where you have friends who care
But for now you are in between
Not sure which way to go yet
So you make the bet
To live in the gray
Until that glorious day
When you are either embraced
By the glowing warmth of Life
Or the cold soothing one of Death
For You are In Between
