"We live alone. We die alone. Everything else is just an illusion."

He's seen the world in colors,
In black and white,
In shades of gray,
I'm sure you've done the same.
-
He smoked the air
and drank the sea
Still, he wanted more to be
-
He wanted more to be.
-
And so he gave
And so he gave
Until it ran him dry,
By giving him, his soul to take
To hand the people their pride.
-
I've seen the world in colors,
In black and white,
In shades of gray,
I'm sure you've done the same.
-
I've smoked the air
And drank the sea
but still it wanted more from me
-
You wanted more from me.
-
And so I gave
And so I gave
Until it ran me dry,
By giving me, my soul to save,
The people who made me die.

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this poem when I was spacing out during math class. I was thinking about how some people die not telling the truth about themselves and how they die, swallowed up by a facade. So I wrote this poem in two parts. The first part is how the people see this person, and the second part is the truth about him or her.
