Through years and years, the fortress stands,
Glancing over its aged moat to the mustard-yellow leaves beyond.
And within the beast, a crackling fire,
its warmth surrounded by icy stones.
Up decaying stairways, down elastic corridors, a notorious tune sounds.
And whilst conveying the grief of its long-dead caretaker,
a piano weeps with its invisible companion as the wind whistles along in sympathy through broken window panes.

The author's comments:
Challenged to write a 4 to 9 line poem with the words "mustard", "piano", "elastic", "moat" and "notorious".
