"Maturity is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter can be said to cure anything" -Kurt Vonnegut

With your fingers
wrapped gently around
my ribs, curled tenderly
in the spaces between each
lonely bone, as if your print
had been there before,
I understand the
urgent importance of each
inhale and exhale;
I breathe deeply
and you move with me
as I hope to show you
something of me
that I have yet
to see,
that you will read with your hands
what my lungs have,
thus far,
been unable
to say.

This is a piece about saying what needs to be said, and not allowing someone to stay beside you without knowing what they truly mean to you. I feel that it's a thing of universal importance.
