Why Do You Live?
Why do you live when everybody around you is dead,
dying,
or about to die?
Do you live because you are drunk—
with alcohol,
with thought,
with passion,
with emotion,
with imagination,
with goodwill,
with facts,
with questions,
with answers,
with wonder?
What do you think of in darkness?
What do you think of in light?
Does it echo when you scream?
Is there comfort when you cry?
Does the sun rise where you are,
Or is there never-ending dusk?
Is it the end of the world,
the beginning of time,
or the present?
Why do you live?
