Given up on Courage

March 23, 2012

I lost you
courage.
We were friends
until that one day
we gave up on
each other.

I’m sorry
courage,
I really am.
But you weren’t
that wonderful either.
You built me up
strong and tough,
and that made me feel
wanted,
like I actually had
a place in life.

I trusted you,
and you helped
me stand up for myself,
but then you weren’t there
when I needed
you the most.

Why weren’t you there?

You let me down,
and now I can’t
trust anyone,
especially you.
I was abandoned.

You were lost.

I wrote this poem as a response to prompt that was to describe an abstract feeling. I want the reader to see that you can't just rely on one person for back up, or support. You have to have courage, and keep hold of it.
