State Champs
STATE CHAMPS
3 for 3.
Going on 4 for 4.
Cranking the music behind the blocks,
Getting ready to go.
Jumping up and down,
Warming up our arms and legs.
Focusing.
I’m up first,
Butterflies in my stomach,
Jumping into the water.
Clearing my mind,
As I grab the bar.
I’m ready to go.
I look left and right,
My competition means nothing to me,
Not on this night.
Focusing.
The race starts,
The water swallows me whole as I pierce the surface.
Just me and my lane.
Burning all the energy built up in my body,
Flying through the water.
I touch the wall,
Watching the others go their hardest for our relay.
The last person dives in,
We are going wild,
Our coach is jumping up and down.
The comeback is evolving.
We see him finish.
I hear our coach screaming.
4 for 4.
