It is so strong a yearning to make it easy to be loved.
A want for beauty, charm, and graceful humor
A desire for admiring eyes
Eyes that trace the face that has been
Made up
Faked.
If all is achieved,
It will not suffice.

Paint covers the face
But not the soul.
Accentuate bone structure
But a face that stands alone
Cannot stand next to a face with character,
Personality.

Give real love
Real love
That is real beauty.

The author's comments:
Self esteem is an issue we all struggle with; however, this poem explores deeper into my struggles with self esteem. I long for outer perfection, something that is more easily attainable, yet I realize outer beauty does not draw love--inner beauty does. Still, the battle between inner and outer beauty, between lust and love, between self esteem and realizing what love really means still exists inside me.
