The Night
The stars are obscured by a sense of fright
That some have gleaned from the oncoming midnight
But I alone walk in the quiet
I alone walk in the cold
I walk everywhere and I walk there alone
For this is where I am myself
I thought once life was only in the crowd
That to live you had to do so out loud
But in a crowd I cannot breathe
The noise, the madness, it clings to me
A dire infection you cannot see
Until it’s reflected in my twisted dreams
You ask why I wander in the chill
It’s a peaceful affliction, if you will
To clear my mind
To soothe my gaze
To straighten my thoughts and set my ways
And to absorb the mystery of the night
