When I was young by the ocean
With the sand between my toes
My grandpa would walk me to the shore
And spend the evenings watching the sun go down

We played in the waves as they crashed gently
And always looked out for the jellyfish
Who were waiting below to give us a little zap

When I was young by the ocean my mother would walk me for miles
Collecting seashells, sand dollars and sea glass
We would bring them home in buckets and pails
Then look through and admire our magnificent finds

This activity never got old
The ocean waves brought new treasures to shore
Each and every single day

When I was young by the ocean the sun was my enemy
I would play beneath her rays every afternoon
Hours upon hours relaxing in the sunlight

Each day only to get nagged by my grandmother to put on protection
But as a child with no care
I avoided her request and always went bare

In result of this decision I came home red
But with the help of our aloe plant
Relief was not too far away

When I was young by the ocean everyday was a gift
No problems in the world could not be fixed by the beach
The beautiful scenery will be something I will never forget
And will cherish for the rest of my life
