Once Upon A Time
Once upon a time
They crumbled just so
And your life was yours
In all its venomous light.
So laugh, and weep, perhaps
For those bygone days
When we plucked leaves off trees
And the caterpillars
Never
ever
died.
We set off into the forest
So made of bridges and harps
Plucky as strings.
Filled with love we were-
Here, there, in a basket-
Maybe the wicker basket of your youth.
Yep, we were swans then.
Did you, perchance, see us?
I, too, was lovely, once upon a time
Some crinkly fable in a trunk...
