A destination of our own

Too wrapped up in the happenings of our zone

While we focus our eyes strictly ahead

The ambition of concentration is being led

Our strive overcomes the willingness to look aside

Lack of time? Effort? Perhaps too much self pride

But what happens beyond our selective look?

Past the eyes our blinders overtook?

There are simply people like you and me

Different stories, backgrounds, and struggles our blinders prohibit us to see

A boy fakes a smile, seems to be all right

When really his character is crying, trying to hold up a fight

Difference causes a girl not to have one to call a friend

When she looks in the mirror, she wants to bring it all to an end

We joke harmlessly with: “weird, dumb, and absurd”

While they hide their true feelings awaiting to be heard

If we could remove our blinders, just for a moment

Our perspective of others would be different

We could learn to love and understand

Pulling the many struggling out of life’s sinking sand

For there is more to life than just you and me

There are others, we sometimes need to remove our blinders to see
