If you're going through hell, keep going. ~Winston Churchill

Shadows shirfting
Waving
Breaking upon ebony shores
An endless tide
Shiver into blackest night
Beneath a starless
Barren sky
Crags of stone
Dripping down
A frozen
Granite cover
Swirling in the echo
Of the current
Pulling, tugging
Dragging down your hopes,
Your dreams
Enveloped
In the arms
Of the shades
Misty cover
Tendrils pulling farther
As the ferryman slides closer
Cold fire blazing
In the sunken pits
Of his soul
A bony smile
Snarled
Flesh burned from
An ivory skull
Laughter catching
In his chest
A rumbling boom of thunder
And his hands are ever reaching
To pluck the life from every heart
Steal the breath of each thought
And drop them
To the writhing shadows
That dance in ethereal pain

I was inspired by the myth of the Underworld, where Charon the Ferryman takes dead souls across the river Styx.
