I remember hiding in my room,
Trying to disappear into the corner,
Trying to ignore the tears.
I remember clutching the phone
Tightly to my ear, her words stopping my breath.
“I can’t do this anymore.
I can’t take it. It has to end.”
They’ve been heard before.
They’ve been stopped.
I can’t stop them now.
She’s too far away.
I remember curling on my bed
In emotional agony.
She’s going to die and
I
Can’t
Stop
Her.
