Down the stony well I descended,
the narrow sliver of pastel sky dissipating above.
Hands and feet grabbed for the silver stones,
as the clash of cool, untouched water greeted me.
diving
deeper
In water beyond crystal clear,
eyes roamed for a glimpse of glory.
near

out
of
breath.
A ripple of gold shimmered from the deep.
O-u-t-s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d fingers grasped the unknown treasure.
But the single gasp of air was

gone.
Once forgiving waters now entangled my body and soul,
as my last tiny air bubbles rose toward the ceasing light.
Acting forever as a reminder,
some things stay hidden for a reason.
