Birds Only Fly With Feathers
I know their names
They were taught to me
Through blinded suns and collected change
You never move, just stand around
And count the passings
But don’t look confused
Those birds only fly with feathers
He’s a notion away from pushing away
I’m progress but the switch is failing
And skyscrapers fell when they dropped the bombs
But he won’t believe it
And all my fears had disappeared
But like the sun he remained sightless
And all at once I lost all my worth
And night fell like a curtain with no promise of dawn
He was in it for the skies, the gold, the chance
Led out into the cold by the blinded sun
Expecting honey and milk
But those birds only fly with feathers
