Midnight Sojourn

At night I walk the streets of my mind
finding solace in my memories.
Along boulevards
twisting, veiled,
I amble through back alleys and sidestreets.
I walk the streets of my mind
through the dirty slums and dead end roads
to the cobblestone parkways
lit by the ambiance of my triumphs.
Each night I discover a new turn,
an undiscovered pathway, a novel route
and with its pursuance
the memory of my previous night’s promenade vanishes.
I look closely at the streets,
at the warm, sunbathed highways
worn smooth by many a night’s travel;
they are fragmented. Patched at the seams
with the tar of imagination and wishful thinking.
I walk the streets of my mind,
amiably ambling for ambling’s sake.
