Favorite Quote:
I Am Human First.

I’d rather be black with brown eyes,
Than white with eyes bluer than the summer skies
I’d rather old “hand me downs’ that are wrinkled,
Than dress like Shirley Temple
I’d rather you call me ugly,
Cause it reminds me of my unique beauty

I’d rather live in a storefront with a big crack,
Than a green and white house with a garden in the back
I’d rather work hard for my money,
Than be rich and let it come easily
I’d rather be proud of myself,
Cause I’m proud of my unique beauty

I was inspired by the book The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. This poem is more than just segregation, its about being proud of who you are as a person, and that no race is perfect, cause in the end we are all human
