Her hair in place,
Shoes on tight,
Not even a trace,
Of terror or fright.
She’ll walk down the aisle,
With her dad on her side,
No time for any denial,
Or time to hide.
Her eyes are gleaming,
Her body sparkling,
The sun is steaming,
And the wedding starting.

We have waited for this day,
For a long time now,
And here we are across the bay,

Watching my sister say her vows.
The reception will follow,
With a three-tier cake,
We all feel shallow,
Like a small blue lake.
We laugh and we cry,
But we know where this leads,
So we say with a sigh,
And plead,
“Come home for the holidays,
Spring Break,
And our birthdays.”
I say goodbye after we finish our cake.
Off they go
We know we will miss them,
And remember them from times long ago.
We tell them not to cause any mayhem,
And that we will always love them so.
