To believe is a gift that few possess,
Some hit a snag and give up,
But not me,
I believe that I can do anything,
It doesn't come easily but I try,
I truly do,
I believe I can live my dream,
My dream of competing,
Winning,
Of standing on a podium,
A gold medal around my neck,
A loving team supporting me,
The cheering is tremendous as our flag rises,
Our Canadian flag,
As our anthem begins to play, I start to cry,
Tears of joy that were once tears of fear and doubt,
Fear of an injury,
Doubt in myself,
But not anymore,
I want to inspire people,
Children, Teenagers, Everyone,
People who thought they were never good enough,
But they are and don't know it,
I want to show them they are all amazing,
If they just believe,
So I stand here in my team Canada jacket
Because I did believe,
In myself, my teammates, my family,
Everyone can believe,
Do you?

The author's comments:
I was inspired to write this poem because my goal is to compete in the Olympics in competitive swimming and I know they only way I'll get there is hard work and believing I can make it. I want people know that they can do almost anything if they put their minds to it and as the poem says, believe!
