She laid there sleepless, drowning in a sea of pillows
and her grey covers, enveloped by desolation
The torment from the nightmare mesmerized her,
awoke her, but abandoned only a bittersweet sensation

It woke her night after night,
influenced by a daily muse of a recent strife
Clinging to her subconscious, unhinging her,
becoming another entity in her static life

She couldn’t restrain the thoughts running through her mind,
when she thought of her lost inamorato, everything seemed alright
but she couldn’t control when the innocent daydreams turned
into terrors, undermining her at night

Her heavy eyelids pleaded with her apathetic body,
to sleep or not to sleep, should she fall into the reprise,
as soon as she gives in, she’ll be embraced in his arms again,
every memory vividly intertwined before her closed eyes
