The Road
As I walk down this musty road
With leaves falling and carrying a heavy load,
I think back to this time last year
When I was at peace and there were no tears
So much has changed, so much has passed
Since I laid eyes on my old friend last:
The long and windy road that I look down upon
Will always remain, even after I’m gone
One year, two months, and eight days ago
While the birds still chirped and the branches hung low
My life was like a breath of fresh air
Like the world seemed to care
Then tragedy struck, not long after that day
My parents pleaded and begged me to stay
But my fate couldn’t be hidden or thrown
So I ran into the unknown
And now, as I turn on this bend in the road
Where the wind has a chill and the leaves erode
I look ahead, down the way
Across the river and towards the bay
No dawn will break
No sunlight will shine
No comfort will fall
No love can be mine
I can’t hide while my heart has to mend
While it tries to forget, while it tries to pretend
That tomorrow will come and bring something new
But let’s face it: can anything be proven true?
