"This was because she knew few words and believed in none,
and in the world she was rather silent, contributing just her share of urbane humor with a precision that approached meagreness." -F. Scott Fitzgerald

I live in a cage

nothing too special

a steel barrier

a different kind
of world to live.

Every day I silently

listen to the wind
as it dances

freely through the

bars of my home.

I dream of

such careless freedom

though it never

makes it too far out
of my home.

But one day

the walls will
crumble down.

“Mayday, mayday,”

you will say.

But the air

will know what

I will say.

“Run away,”
guided by wind.

Until that

day will
grace me,

my home,

my walls.

The author's comments:
I read lots of Ellen Hopkin's books, which inspired the style.
