Insomnia

Sleep avoids me
As if I were a plague

I toss and turn for hours
But it never comes

The days grow longer
And all those sleepless nights seem to drag on

Stress and anger embody me
They reach out and attack those I care about

They have taken over
Turning me into that which I fear most

Darkness
Nothing more than a lonely shadow

So, why?
Why does this insomnia curse me?

Why does sleep hate me?
I ask myself this all the time
But I know the answer
I have always known

It hides in the back of my mind
Drifting in and out like a ghost

What happens the night sleep decides to come to me,
But I never wake up?
