What happens to a heart in love?

Does it make you smile
like a visit from an old friend?
Or break when he leaves -
And never mend?
Does it all happen over night?
Or grow and appear slowly -
like a ray of sunlight?

Maybe it beats fast
like a hummingbird's wings.

Or maybe it sings.

The author's comments:
We had to write poems about love for my English class in the format of Langston Hughes "A Dream Deferred" and this was what I came up with.

This was great! Even before I read your description I was like "langston hughes?" I love the last line in particular.

"Or maybe it sings?"
