I remember when I met you

English class, Last year when you

Sat next to me always fixing your forever

Silky hair while you made sure you

Didn’t do your work in class or at home

And honestly, I wanted to be like you

For, I was somewhat lonely but you

Had your gigantic group of friends

That you must’ve known since elementary school

And I remember that boyfriend you told me about

And I, having sworn to secrecy, never told a soul

I remember how our personalities fit together like

A one hundred piece puzzle unable to solve

Maybe that’s why I wanted to be your friend

And for the longest time I thought I was

But as the year went on and as friendships

And hatred formed beyond my control

I was left to wonder-

What happened?
