Graduation
Suddenly, it’s graduation
Out of nowhere, you miss those years
Then you hear, “I’ll never forget you”
And your eyelids flood with tears
All you can say is
“I’ll see you again”
But goodbye is goodbye
And you know it’s the end
So you say your “I’m sorry”
All the words you’ve rehearsed
Fight back your predictions
Of them moving on first
It’s now that you realize
The relationships you’ve made
All the people you failed
All the cruel games you played
Though you told your friends secrets,
You never shared the truth
You couldn’t trust a single soul
With the demons of your youth
Slowly signing yearbooks
You wonder where the message will go
Under worn-out clothes and dry law books
Read by children you’ll never know
Those four years dragged on slowly
And now they’re far away
Suddenly It’s graduation
I’ve been waiting for this day
