Excellent

No matter what they say
Everything
Is a contest.
But my best
Is never enough
People forcing me,
Pushing me,
Shoving me
Into a box
But sometimes
I don't fit.
No one understands
My desire
To win.
Not to brag,
Just to know,
Be assured.
To rest easy knowing
I won
Because sometimes
Excellent doesn't suffice.

The author's comments:
I wrote this poem after receiving my score from Solo & Ensemble. Even though my singing yielded an Excellent rating, my score was lower than all of my friend's scores. I was angry because I felt like I had worked way harder than all of them and was getting the credit that I craved. However, this poem is open for interpretation, so you can think about it in whatever way you want.
