I am me

I turn my back away from the crowd
to void their sharp eyes.
They’re all staring.
I know what they’re all thinking.
Why am I here?
I’m 14,
this is a gold medal bout for juniors,
a 19 year age group category.
I know I shouldn’t,
but I can’t help thinking it either:
why am I here?
But that’s when you realize:
you’re here because you brought yourself here.
I am here because I brought myself here.
I.
I worked hard for this.
Those girls had the chance to make it here,
and penetrating their eyes at me in envy will do nothing to change it.
