What's that you say? I'm Hurt?
Yes I am!
Hurt from
your judgmental words
and useless swears,
Hurt from
your injustices
and apathy,
Hurt from
the painful past
that incessantly haunts me.
Yes I'm Hurt, I AM!

What's that you say? I'm weak?
Yes I am!
Weak from
the constant battles
I fight in your defense,
Weak from
caring too much about everyone else
then leaving little room for myself,
Weak from
clenching my fists on
the dumbbells of my reputation.
Yes I'm Weak, I AM!

What's that you say? I'm tall?
Yes I am!
Tall in
God's spirit and mercy
that incessantly increases everyday,
Tall in
my maturity
that causes so many so much grief,
Tall in
the future that so awaits.
Yes I'm Tall, I AM!

What's that you say? I'm Smart?
Yes I am!
Smart enough
to know that I cannot
listen to those who criticize me,
Smart enough
to take on things that
I never thought would be possible,
Smart enough
to know I'm Smart
and to humbly accept God's grace and mercy.
Yes I'm Smart, I AM!

What's that you say? I'm rich?
Yes I am!
Rich in
wisdom and knowledge,
Rich in
hope for a better tomorrow,
Rich in
volunteering and service.
Yes I'm Rich, I AM!

What's that you say? I'm Proud?
Proud in
being Hurt,
proud in
being Weak,
proud in
being Tall ,
proud in
being Smart,
proud in
being Rich.
YES I AM, I AM!!!!!

The author's comments:
I do not usually write poetry but I was inspired to write this poem by hearing and watching the criticism that people get for being the way they are. Before you label someone, even in a positive way, you should find out the other characteristics about them that make them unique. Also, accept your own qualities so that the way people label you will be meaningless since you proclaim who you are already.
