Gypsy of the sand
Sand
For miles around
That’s all I see, that’s all I feel, that’s all I taste
As I walk leading the camels with my family, the sand that
Is carried on the wind, scratches my reveled skin and feels
Heavy on my eye lashes
Sand
It’s all I know
My whole life I’ve been crossing this one desolated desert
Carrying goods for people I will never meet, in places I will never go
To support governments I’ll never under stand
Sand
I’m its child
I was born in a tent on the way to the destination that I will
Travel hundreds of times, before I’m withered with skin rough as sand
Each step in the dunes I have taken many times before and will take many times again
Sand
she is my haven
she protects the nomads who cherish her; who understand her, who is part of her
As for the generations before me, the sand saves us from evil people
People in the town, people of hatred, people of war
Sand
I am her sister
I tell her all my secrets, my dreams and I listen to her stories in return
She tells me about the people who pass by, people full of greed, love and tales
I promise to keep her spirit alive, and she promise to love my people
Sand
She is my friend
The wind dances through my long black hair, laughing and singing as she goes
Leaving reminders of her presence on my face and robe, but I could never forget her
Her spirit is unforgettable, for she is a part of my soul, part of me
Sand
She is my teacher
Since my first steps she supported me, always helping my feet take another step
She had shown me the ways of survival, life and death, of peace and hate
Sand has connected my people for generations, keeping us strong
Sand
She is a goddess
When angered, her wrath is unbearable, deadly, fearsome
In the tents warm, we huddle together praying our sister, our mother, our friend
Will return to the loving state we all need to survive.
Sand
She is my freedom
People of the towns laugh, or pity the country less people
Who cross the sand, and yet we are free, we have no chains
Made by selfish heartless men, we live by the merciful sand
Sand
She is my blanket
Shielding me from the knifes of men of greed and envy,
Holding my hand through the troubles of conflicting land
Crossing her each time without grief or pain
Sand
For miles around
She is my life, my sister, my friend, I’m her daughter
So do not pity the gypsies of the sand
We have the glistening stars and the goddess the open land
Gypsies of the sand
