The Birds

The birds chirp
high in the trees.
The rest of the world
is silent, listening.
Oh how easily, it seems,
for the flowers to turn
their blossom, to listen
with tender ear.
One after another
the birds fly away,
seeking safer refuge
from the oncoming storm.
Depriving the world
of their song.
