"A Summer Life" Found Poem

January 31, 2012

"The sun wavered through the branches"
As I walked in the woods
I could see "shadows of angels"
Watching from above
I was lost
"The wind picked up"
It was "a howl like the sea"
Then it was clear
I saw the "harsh light" getting closer
"Tears blurred my eyes"
I had escaped

This is what my English teacher calls a "found poem." We read a piece and use direct phrases to make a poem. In this case, we read part of "A Summer Life" by Gary Soto. It's really a fun concept...enjoy! PS the direct lines from the excerpt are the ones in quotes.
