From Adolescence to Animosity
I asked my dad if I could jump.
“No you might fall down and not get back up.”
I asked my dad if I could fly.
“No you might get hurt if you try.”
I asked my dad if I could swim.
“No you might drown, and I’ll never see you again.”
Now I’m grown up and on my own.
My heart is bitter and turned to stone.
I tried to jump and now I’m down,
Can’t even pick myself off of the ground.
Daddy tried to protect me from all that was bad.
Now I’m just a child and irrevocably sad.
