Counting His Freckles
I start with one
I always start with one
I always forget where I left off
(this is never on purpose)
I say one, two...
I move my pointer finger
from perfect tan speck
to less perfect darker speck
I focus very hard
as if it's the only
task that matters
as if I'm going to make
a million dollars
once I count
them all
I lose my focus easily
because he'll laugh
that laugh, I love
because he'll interrupt me
he'll take my hand in his and
lift my chin
with his thumb
sometimes he'll kiss me
it's always worth
a million dollars
